Meet Your Specialist in Website Design & Strategy for Artists & Makers

Hello, I’m Em — as in Emma.

Building meaningful relationships is at the heart of my work. Whether through workshops, mentoring, or website design for artists and makers, I listen carefully to your challenges, ambitions, and goals — collaborating with you every step of the way.

I become your creative practice consultant, planning partner, problem solver, and advocate — helping bring your artistic practice to life online through thoughtful, strategic website design that genuinely reflects your work.

My approach combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of the creative journey and the audiences you want to reach, ensuring your online presence feels as distinctive, considered, and impactful as the work you create.

I believe artist websites should feel as intentional as the work they represent.

Artist Website Design That Works as Thoughtfully as You Do

Every piece of your work tells a story. Your artist website should tell it just as powerfully.

After more than two decades working across the art, design, and craft sectors — from running my own hand-printed textile studio and selling globally online, to working at the UK Crafts Council across exhibitions, trading, and education — I’ve learned that the most effective artist website designs are not only beautiful, but purposeful.

Through mentoring, teaching, and supporting over 100 creative businesses, I understand the challenges artists and makers face when building an online presence that feels professional, authentic, and commercially sustainable.

I also understand that no two creative practices are alike. A ceramic artist, jeweller, textile designer, researcher, educator, or multidisciplinary maker all need different things from their website — and my role is to help shape a digital experience around the way you work, communicate, and sell.

Why Work With Em?

The name began simply as shorthand for Emma, but over time it came to represent something larger — work with Em and work with them — because collaboration sits at the centre of everything I do.

I work closely with visual artists, makers, and creative businesses to understand not only your practice, but also your goals, audience, and how you want your website to support your work.

My approach is thoughtful and collaborative, much like the creative process itself.

Whether you're:

  • showcasing collections and commissions,

  • promoting workshops or exhibitions,

  • selling handmade work online,

  • applying for funding or residencies,

  • or building visibility for your practice,

I help translate the richness of your work into an artist website design that feels engaging, considered, and easy to navigate.

My Creative Journey in Artist Website Design

My creative path has never been linear — and I believe that’s part of what makes my approach to artist website design so valuable.

I’m a lifelong learner, maker, and problem solver. Over the years, my work has spanned everything from selling early works by Grayson Perry at the Crafts Council Gallery, to launching my own global eCommerce window film brand, designing for brands including Made.com, Victoria and Albert Museum, and Liberty, and creating commissioned work for spaces ranging from hospitals to hotels.

I was also awarded a Nesta Research Fellowship for pioneering digital print technologies within craft practice — an experience that deepened my interest in the relationship between handmaking, technology, and audience engagement.

During the pandemic, while working as a Business Coach within the incubation team at Cockpit Arts, many of these experiences began to connect more clearly. Supporting creative businesses as they adapted their online presence gave me firsthand insight into the specific challenges artists and makers face in the digital space.

From photographing delicate ceramics effectively, to communicating the value of workshops, commissions, and handmade processes online, I saw how difficult it could be for creatives to translate the richness of their practice into a website that truly reflected their work and supported sustainable income.

That’s when Work With Em truly began to take shape.
